About Steve

Award-winning journalist Stephen Betts, who has covered the Rockland area for other publications for three decades, has joined the staff of the Bangor Daily News.

Betts graduated in 1981 from the University of Maine with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. He has worked ever since as a reporter and editor, beginning at The Journal Tribune in Biddeford in 1981. He was a reporter at The Courier-Gazette covering Knox County from 1982 to 1994, before becoming news editor for the publication from 1994 to 2008. Since then he has been associate editor-reporter for VillageSoup’s online and print news in Rockland.

Betts has won numerous writing and photography awards and was named the Maine Press Association Journalist of the Year in 2005.
